Dice Fun

Here are two dice games you can play with your children.  I invented them myself.  🙂

Exercise Dice Game:
I took two foam dice, then cut out card stock squares that would fit directly onto the dice.  For the first dice, I wrote numbers (5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 15) on the card stock squares.  For the second dice, I wrote activities… long jump, jumping jacks, push-ups, sprint in place for __ seconds, donkey kicks, tuck jumps, etc.  (Other activities could include leg lifts, arm circles, squats, lunges, crunches, kicks, crab walks, etc).

Then I glued the labeled card stock squares onto my foam dice and let dry.

Now it’s time to roll the dice and get to exercising!  Super fun to see just how many jumping jacks you’ll have to do, how long you’ll have to sprint in place, etc.  Mom’s gotta do the excercises also, you know!    🙂

The second dice game…

Learning Coin Names and Values:
Just like the exercise game, I used a foam die (just one this time) and card stock squares.  I labeled the sides with 1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents, and 25 cents.  I also gathered a little plastic piggy bank for each player (you could also just have them make a pile or use a fun container). Grab a bucket of change and you’re ready to get started!

The first player rolls the die.  They have to pick a coin out of the main pile that matches the die amount and then say the name of the coin.  So if they roll 25 cents, they have to correctly pick out a quarter and say the name of the coin… quarter.  They can now place that coin in their pile/ container/ piggy bank (not to have, just for the game!) and move on to the next player.

When everyone is getting tuckered out, you can add up the coin values to see who got the most money.  Although, we’re not all that competitive with the little guys, so we just say “Yah, you got so many coins correct!”

This is how my son completely learned and memorized all the coins, their names, and their values!
