Pine Nut Basil Pesto

Mmmm… pesto!  Mmmm, fresh basil.

This basil pesto is like gold.  I don’t waste a drop!

Original Recipe is from

3 cups Fresh Basil Leaves (well rinsed) (grow your own to save on future costs!)
1 1/2 cups Pine Nuts (I’ve heard you can also use walnuts)
2 Cloves of Garlic
1 cup Olive Oil (I use Bragg’s organic, raw olive oil because it tastes SO good!)
Salt & Pepper to taste- don’t be afraid to add enough sea salt to make it perfect!
A Touch on Honey if desired, 1-2 tsp

Put everything except the olive oil in a blender and blend until well mixed.  Slowly pour in oil while still blending.

I’ve wanted to use this to make a basil pesto pizza (pizza topped with pesto, black olives, and tomato), but it doesn’t get that far before we devour it on just plain bread!
Update:  I made this as a pasta sauce and it was a hit!  I got it really smooth and creamy in the blender.  Eat this with some pasta, sauteed vegetables (carrot, broccoli, etc), and sautee’d fresh mushrooms!

Pine nuts aren’t very cheap, I’ve found the best deal is to buy them in bulk from Azure.
